    Teak Cleaner?

    What's everyone using to clean teak these days?

    I want to clean my teak tomorrow and I'm looking for suggestions on the best way to accomplish that.

    I'm also open to suggestions on what's the best way to protect it after it's been cleaned.

    Currently the teak is just gray with a light coating of typical dirt. I don't have any blood stains to be concerned with at this point.

    Any help would be much appreciated.

    Usually you can powerwash the dirt right out of it. But not with a high pressure washer. I usually get a stiff brush and use some teak cleaner or a can of TSP (Tri-Sodium Phosphate) powder sold at home depot, and scrub away on it. That should do it! Good luck with that beauty!

    One,
    Your teak is way to new to need anything too strong, try suddsy ammonia with some fresh water and a scotch bright pad. Don't scrub with the grain if you can avoid it. Oxi Clean also works well if the ammonia doesn't work. If you want to know more on the oxi clean just send me a note.

    I would definitely second sudsy ammonia and a scotchbrite pad - be gentle, use lots of freshwater to rinse. It is way to soon to break out the big guns like Teak-Nu and the power washer.

    Whatever you end up doing to clean your teak... Don't follow this guys advice on pressurewashing and scrubbing the teak with a stiff brush, high pressure or not. A regular hose, an ammonia solution and a soft brush should get her nice and clean for a long long time. As said above, a scotchbrite pad would be even better. Maybe some teak oil on the covering boards on occasion but I don't know anyone that uses it on their decks.

    Dang dude I hope you were kidding???

    first clean it with dawn soap and simple green mixed with fresh wash. Scrub thoroughly to clean the teak. Then use scotchbrite pad as mention and suddsy amonia, scrub real good with grain. It will come like new. Make sure, again as mentioned, to use lot of water and wet teak real good before amonia.

    hahahahaha.. your funny.. teak cleaning is easy.

    wet down your teak real good and use Tide laundry detergent and start slopping and scrubbing it on and keep it wet! scrub it down good and go with the grain and get the corners.. rise it off good and use a 2-1 water & bleach in a bucket and slop that on, let sit a minute and rinse it off.. works great .. hope this helps.
    do not let people eat fried chicken or lays potato chips on teak..

    Mike-

    Here's my tried and true process....

    Sudsy ammonia + water 50/50. DO NOT LET DRY. Do a small section and then rinse thororoughly. As Makokiller said, ALWAYS go ACROSS the grain. Be careful...do not get into close quarters with the sudsy ammonia. You can buy sudsy ammonia at any grocery store in the cleaner section for about $2 a gallon.

    If you can't find the namr brand Sudsy Ammonia, you can make your own pretty easy....

    Ingredients

    * 1/2 c Ammonia
    * 1 Gallon Water
    * 1 tablespoon Dishwashing Liquid

    Instructions

    In a gallon container, put in the ammonia. Add 1 tblspn dishwashing liquid and mix.

    While teak is still wet, combine Starbrite Teak Brightener and water 40/60, Apply liberally and keep wet.....again DO NOT LET DRY. Let the Starbrite solution stay on the teak for 5-10 minutes....rinse thoroughly.

    My cockpit is 130 sq-ft plus teak covering boards and I use two 16 oz containers of the Starbrite Teak Brightener to approx. a gallon of water.

    During the season, I do this about once a month. Total time = Approx 1 hour. Gives the teak a "blonde" look....BEAUTIFUL!

    This season I added a new twist to this process with a water based sealant that I'm VERY satisifed with. Only had to do the above process once this season and it looks almost as good as the day I did it after three months....

    The sealant is made by Semco and I used the natural...

    Good luck!

    Use a 3M Doodlebug (the brown one) and either a 70/30 mix of regular non waxed boat soap and white vinegar or a mix of boat soap, Part 2 snappy teak and water.

    Thats what we use on the superyachts most of the time
