Summer gas prices expected to stay under $2

Summer gas prices expected to stay under $2

For those who may worry that gasoline prices will climb back up to more than $4 a gallon this spring and summer — the height of the boating season for many states — take heart.

The Energy Information Administration, which provides official energy statistics from the U.S. government, recently issued a report indicating that gasoline and diesel prices probably won’t rise much above their current levels for the remainder of 2009.

“Economic contraction in 2009 and lower projected crude oil prices are expected to reduce annual average retail gasoline and diesel fuel prices in 2009 to $1.87 and $2.27 per gallon, respectively,” the EIA said this week.

Sure hope they are right. That translates into $400/per trip savings for me this summer.
PS Mary thanks for all the informational post. They are appreciated.

No problem! I am not sure why the companies that send me the info don't share it with you guys rather than me

I try to keep the depressing shit off the headline suchs as dealer profit margins and quarter losses. The regular news is bad enough. I don't read it or look at it anymore. Thankfully Contender is still fully open, selling boats steady and life is pretty good!

I hope it does. It certainly will make life easier across the board if it does what they say. Were paying 1.65 at our dock because we have a fuel tank on the property but unfourunatly we can't take it everywhere with us

The breathing pessimist that I am looks at these numbers with a bit of skepticism. I'll believe it when the ice melts and I'm at the fuel dock.

I hope these aren't the dudes that predicted $10 by '09.

Thanks for the bit of good news though, I don't need to turn my local news on now for a week

Fuel prices will go up in the summer, they always spike 30-50 cents more then we typically see at this point in the season. $2 on land might be right but I'm sure on the water we might see them a little higher, but surely under $2.50 unless there is some mahor catasrophe somewhere in the world that changes this. Regardless this will help many boaters get out there a lot more. I know I will be offshore a lot more...a 50% savings for me is very enticing... Twice as many trips Hopefully by the end of the year things throughout the nation begin to improve, I'm sure the lower gas prices will help a little.
