    stripped motor mount holes

We have 3 out of 8 motor mount holes that are stripped out, the obvious fix is to dowel them....which should have been done before we dropped the motor back in....hind sight is 20/20 though. Is there a better fix than just doweling them? Should we epoxy the dowels in and then lag the motor down? Any insight would be appreciated.

Thats what i was afraid of, all the others are solid.....was figuring that since the motor has been yanked in and out of her 7 or 8 times in the past 7 years that could be the cause...and yup its a blackfin.

My quess would be you will have to cut out the rotten support back to good wood and then replace with new wood and glass.

For what it's worth, lag bolting an engine down is just asking for trouble. They may feel snug when you put them in, but over time the engine (from torque) will start working the bolt's loose (they're just wood screw's), deforming the holes. Any time you get water on top of your bed's it'll work down the thread's, leading to soft wood and corrosion. It's not a maybe, it's a matter of when. Frank,SeaPower
