    Stnthetic Oil

I have a new gas engine in my boat, maybe 50 hours on it, and was thinking of changing to synthetic oil.
Is this O.K. , just drain old oil and fill with synthetic. Then continue to use synthetic from than on ?
Is it worth the extra money ? What weight ?
    Thanks !

Well, I'm not a mechanic and I didn't sleep at Holiday Inn, but I'd look at your warranty to make sure the manufacturer allows synthetic oils. If so, there is a good chance that they also provided a recommended version as well.

The last thing you want to do is void your warranty.

Need a little more info...inboard, outboard, what kind/ make, model...

Synthetic is great but manfs. sometines already have them running on synthetic oils. Also need to find out what your breakin is for your motor before changing over.

He says the motor is in his boat. I can only assume it is an inboard.

Mobil 1 or Shell Rotella 5w40 Synthetic, both excellent oils. Have been using Mobil 1 Syn. in all my vehicles for the last 15 years, nary a problem, when ever pulling a valve cover to just check things out absolutely spotless inside.

    Oil Interval

The main advantage of syn oil is a lengthen the oil change interval. If you change your oil according to the manufacturer which you should their is no savings. Best advice is use the oil recommended by the manufacturer and change it when it is supposed to be changed.

ps: get it tested rach time!

gotta clear something up here,ok ?
"new engine",does this mean you have a new complete engine,or,do you have a reman long block ?? big difference...here's why, first,if you have a new volvo engine,it is allready running a syntetic oil.mercs do not.get where i'm going ?? "new engine" to me means, new,as in complete new engine, anything else is different..
