    Stereo help

So im planning on putting a new stereo system in my boat. Currently it has 4 clarion speakers that are already wired to the console and a 8x3 hole in the console. I have a couple of questions:

    1) how do i tell if the speaker that i have right now are dual cone or coaxial speakers without ripping them out? and how do i go about removing them?

    2) the hole i have from the previous face is 8x3. Do i look at the face plate dimensions or the chasis dimensions when installing? Do you have any ideas on what to do if the width of the new face i want to get is about an inch shorter than the hole i already have? i wanted to put one of those waterproof covers, but they're too big

    3) does the fm/am radio work off of the vhf intenna?

    what im working with:

    1) The clarion pictures show a coax speakers (silver tweeter in the middle)
    2) Shakespeare makes a vhf/fm splitter to use one antenna for both. easy to install in your situation. About 30-40 bucks.
    3) Looks like you already had a chassis from a pull-out stereo in there. may want to get a piece for starboard, cover it and make a new hole for a new deck.

Jrlsail types faster than I do but that cutout could be from a marine sealed stereo box. Most pull out chassis stereos are still only a 1 DIN (2 1/8" tall and 7 1/8" wide) size. One of the boats I had previously had one in it and if I remember correctly that was the cutout size. It was a sealed box for a stereo to slide into with a soft rubber tbbube out the back that you zip tied tight around the wires, then it had a flip up coverb over the front. The rest of his answers are right on the money.
