I practice safe fishing
Spotting fish 750' below
Hey SF guys, after pounding 40 - 50 pound tiles in 750' of water, I've come to the conclusion that I just can't spot the damn things on a fishfinder. In the past I thought I had, but now I think I was fooled by coincidence, because after hitting these fish steadily 5 or 6 trips in a row, I have yet to mark a single one. I've looked with several different units, ranging from 600 to 1000KW, both 200 and 50 khz. So--can anyone out there tell me they've difinitively seen, dropped, and caught tiles in 700' or more of water, and if so, what unit, power, and khz were you using? Thanks.

Banned Camp - I am on PROBATION!!
I may sound really stupid by saying this but i dont think there is a chance of reading a tile on the bottom.. you are fishing all over and fishing specific bottoms.. either rocky, or their clay bottoms out there..
That is what you look for and thats where they hang from what i understand.. i know you can get the bottom readings but not sure it will pick up the fishies that deep.. maybe i am wrong but i figured i would give you sort of an answer even though it may be half azz1 lol hahahah
I tried! hehe

I just got squirted with ballyhoo poop
I'll let you know next week if the Raymarine 3kw transducer works I just had it installed the only problem is that it is working off of the DSM 300 and it needs DSM 400 and that isn't ready yet so the full power will not be there. They say you can see fish and bottom to 5000 ft. We shall see or not.

Crab mustard is good
I assume you are talking goldens, not blue lines. I can spot bottom on a machine that I want to fish for goldens, but I can't swear that I have ever marked them. I have marked BLT's, groupers, wreck fish and black bellied rose fish all the way to 1,000 ft. I have done this with Furuno 600, 582, 585, 682, and the 1100. All of them were connected to 1,000 watt thru hulls.
