sportfisher in the 50-60 foot range??

i'm located on the texas coast and me and my two brothers run a 50' bertram right now. we're looking at moving up to a bigger boat anywhere from 55' to 60'. i was just wondering what you guys think are the best hulls for the short chop that we get most of the time in texas. i have heard that the 55' viking and the 58' viking don't have as good of a ride as their present day counterparts. any advice that yall have will be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
john

Boat: Yours or Mine?
Home Port: Florida
Best Catch: Fresh fish for dinner!
Occupation: Pink Snapper Snatcher
Pick a boat with some Carolina Heritage. That sharp entry will eat up the gulf chop and sit steady when bottom fishing. If you are looking at production hulls try a slightly used 61' Viking or newer 60' Hatteras.

61 Viking will run very well. I'm sure there are a ton of them in the Gulf Coast and in Fla alone so finding one shouldn't be too hard.

For production, contact the boys at Galati Yachts to find a 61. Great boats that fish well. If you were entertaining custom boats, I'd seiously consider a Spencer 59'. I'd look into both and take sea trials to compare.

61 viking or a Carolina boat. I would if you have the time and money look at a Carolina boat. These guys make some great hulls. With the price of fuel a Carolina boat looks extremely attractive.

Boat: 38 Phoenix / 52 hatteras
Home Port: Clinton, Ct and MHC for the Winter
Best Catch: My Job being paid to fish...
Occupation: Owner / Captain Bluefin Charters Clinton,Ct
Stay away from the 58 Viking not that good a sea boat and wet as hell... The best production sea boat I have fished was a 60 Hatteras... The 61 Viking was very good and faster but quiet a bit behind the 60 Hatt.

You should look at the Carolina built hulls, They are light and ride great. My 61 was outruning the Viking in a 5 to 6 ft chop 2 years ago year in Ocean City. Check my web site out, www.wet-n-wildsportfishing.net
