    Thats a good idea, pull some slack, tape it very good and do not use cheap tape. Use scotch Super 33.

    If you dont have any cableglide, use dish soap. It will go thru there, it got in there didnt it??

    Go to your nearest marine electronics store or a West Marine and buy the cable splicer made by Shakespear, I just did mine on my Icom with a Digital antenna and it works fine. They also make the gold plated splice for your plug end of the cable. I have been using both of these for sometime now and have never had a problem.
