Did anyone see the new 70 Spencer with IPS? Whats that with the bow?

I was at the boat yard yesterday and they were swapping out the ips drives (3). The pictures you have posted are with the smaller drives just so they could cruise around with her, they passed me that day also while they were out. The larger drives came in and they were putting them on, now we should see what she will really do.
The opening in the bow is for the anchor, it will be hidden by a set of doors which will fill in the gap you see. Hit a switch, they open and the anchor drops, it's a big anchor and they didn't want a pulpit.
The windows you see in the side are the master state room which is where the engine room would normaly be located. The owners wife is closterphobic and wanted to be able to see outside while in the state room so there you have it.
The name of the boat if nobody knows is the "PENTA gone", as in Volvo Penta. The boat belongs to the owner and has Chesapeake, Va. as the hailing port, where the office is located.
Very different indeed, not your typical Spencer for sure.
Too much going on. That lower cabin window line infront of engine room is not very carolina. That bridge area is to busy, hopefully the doors on the??? bow anchor area will make it look a little better???
What's up with that window in the side? Married or not. What happens if your in the sh!t and the window breaks?
What's with that ugly enclosed bridge?
What's up with those vents?
What's up with the bow rail?
IPS? Are they really the wave of the future for sportfishing boats? PMY raised some questions pertaining to that in the last months issue.

you could not give me that thing...
sorry.
Could have been a beautiful boat: (my opinion of course)
1. Open Flybridge
2. No rail
3. PALLLLEAAAAASEEE get rid of the windows
4. Bow ... Are you serious? That is a better option than a pulpit???????![]()
I agree, not your typical Spencer we are used to seeing but the customer contracted the boat to be built like he wanted and who would or could turn down the job in this day and time.
I like the SECOTAN much better![]()
Hey Troy,
Amen to that,SECOTAN is a prettier ride for sure, and gotta agree with you on the first point also,in the present state of the economy and the marine industry ,if a client next in line, even if there is a line, wants something special or more suiting to his/her needs ,you try to build to that request.
Sure beats the hell out of shutting the doors and trying to re-hire next year or so when demand picks up? or scrapeing bottoms?
I dont get people some times, guess they dont understand what we builders have to do sometimes to keep in business.I know you do and the other capts. do to try to keep your boat paid for , money coming and food on the table etc .
Paul is a first class Capt. and one hell of a boat builder,i wish him and his crew the best in the future!
at least the owner can say "I own the only ugly Spencer ever built"...that's gotta count for something![]()
