We are pleased and excited to announce that Southport Boats, LLC has purchased the assets of Southport Boat Works. Southport Boats is a subsidiary of American Global Yachts Group (AGYG), builders of Newport Yachts and Molokai Strait Yachts and marketers of Outer Reef Yachts and Hunt Yachts. AGYG has been selling Southports through their Maryland and Florida locations for two years and was our largest dealer those years – so many of you are already their customers.
Even though Southport Boats is a subsidiary of AGYG, their retail sales operations in Maryland and Florida have the same purchasing, promotion and warranty programs as all other Southport dealers. So, your dealer, if other than AGYG, is at no disadvantage.
As a part of AGYG, Southport Boats is a stronger company that will be able to continue to provide the service you’ve always received, plus new products you’ve asked for – like the 33-34 center console that’s next on the drawing board. We’re putting together renderings of the product now for your comments and will be exploring some pre-build pricing programs for current Southport owners.
Some of you have asked about warranties. Warranties on your boats and boats currently in dealer show rooms remain intact for the duration of the warranty periods. Of course, just as before, your warranty claims must be submitted by the selling dealership or another approved dealership and approved by Southport Boats. But you can rest assured that Southport Boats will stand behind all approved claims.
Best of all, the same great boat builders that created your vessel are on the job building Southports today. Val Jenkins, who many of you know, is in his element as head of operations. Just yesterday we were talking about our people and Val remarked that they “are the best I’ve ever had”. This is from the guy that ran the shop at Mako and then Black Fin, and then ran Cigarette when FORTUNE named the product one of the 100 best built in the US!
We’ll be interacting with you more often using the Southport Club, our new Facebook page that will go live in a few days and through e-mails and personal calls. We’re also putting together an e-mail list for a newsletter, so if you haven’t corresponded with us, please send me an e-mail at flongino@southport-boatworks.comThis e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and we’ll add you to our data_base_. Jerry Cureton, the AGYG principal who most often works with us, will also chime in from time to time. Jerry’s not only a boat builder; he’s a genuine Philadelphia lawyer who drives a Big Dog chopper bike. So, he brings a different, welcome perspective.
As always, thank you all for your encouragement and over the past few months as we have finalized our agreement with AGYG. We feel a special relationship with you, almost as if you are fellow boaters using and enjoying a common product. That won’t change. Let’s go boating.
