Sirius Satellite Weather on NavNet VX2
I was looking for feedback from anyone who has experience with Sirius Satellite Weather on their boats. I have a friend with XM weather, but I'm specifically wondering about the quality from Sirius of the sea surface temperature shots, how often they update during a day, how close a scale you can zoom in on it, etc. It will be displayed on a NavNet VX2 system, 10.4" screen. Any info at all would be greatly appreciated.

I have Sirius on my Raymarine C80. I like the ability to watch for weather and track storms. However, the SST presentation is a bit pixilated on the shorter ranges. It may be a limitation of the screen size (8 in) and resolution, but not sure as I have nothing to compare to. The reason I got it was for the SST but find I use it far more for watching and avoiding weather. Still a great tool.

We have it on our E120's... One on the 31 down here and the other on the 23 up north. Our 120's them selves have had numerous issues but the sirius seems to be ok. I use it mostly for weather as the fellow above does. On occasion down here I'll use it to see where I am in relation to edges when swording but resolution is only so so. Its more or less a guide as I don't know that its calibrated to buoys for accuracy.
Again I don't get much use out of the one on the 23 up north for sst as we don't use it offshore that much. Basically we use it to let us know where the weather is.
I wish we had it on the 43 as thats our battle wagon for offshore and in the islands... The little furunos we use though don't have the capacity and I'm out of room to go flush with any more screens.

thanks guys
Sorry to hear that Tom. I installed the Sirius weather this week and it worked like a charm while out on a shake down yesterday. It's doing exactly what I hoped it would. I agree about the big pixels with the close scale, but it quickly put me on the money yesterday.
Deepy, I'd push for the boss to put it on the 43 if you can figure out a way how. It seems to be great for the early season temps down here in addition to the safety aspect with the weather for the summer. I'd bet it would reveal some interesting things for you over at Chub early in the season too.

Funny you mention it at chub. Yes surprisingly it would be. You can look a standard shot say from rutgers before heading out. Boom! You see the pocket outlined clear. 68 on the flats and the deep showing about seventy five. When you get in there you find that to be pretty close but you venture off the edge and your "spots" then find a full degree break. No weed or anything but there they are.
If we had it real time we could find it easier and can also track it with the tide moving in there the way it does. Going from spot to spot and working the tide on them produces pretty good but when you find one of those "spikes" it can really get nuts.
From the weather aspect I'd love to have it there too. We really get no forecasting there. Nassau forecasts seem to be very uninformative. We're gonna fish one way or another but it would be nice to know what we're facing. Also our guests fly in on small planes. If I look to the west and see its gray, I can assume theres a front comming through and they're going to be late. If I had a clue where the front is I could guess how late. Maybe change flight connection reservations or just get extra work done around the boat.
