    Single Screw Sportfisher

Upon some research I have come to realize that a majority of the Oregon-Inlet boys are running single screw boats. What is you alls opinions regarding running a single screw boat to the break? I would just be concerned of a major unrepairable breakdown. I wonder how many times those guys pull each other in a year?

When I was out on the Run-Off this spring, I had asked Capt. Brian about single screws and his answer was that just about all the charter boats out of MoreheadCity are single screw........one of the reasons is cheaper maint for 1 instead of two, and also that they are close to the gulfstream and don;t ave to travel as far as alot of charters from other areas.

My personal opinion is that I would sooner have a twin screw just for extra precautions.

One of the things that I like about single screw boats is the clean(er) wake it leaves behind the boat. Makes it easier to spot those pointy nosed fish.

I have often thought abour the clean wake. It has to be a lot less whitewater from the single screw. Correct me if I am wrong, but, I think the Obsession and Pelican both have single power and are both top producers year end year out.

Also the Streamweaver is a top producing boat out of Wrightsville over the years and one of the few with single power.

although i dont run overboard much anymore, and mine is no big sportfisher, alls i have ever run offshore over the years are single screw boats. had to get a tow one time (knock on wood) when a little more thought on my part trying to figure out the problem (bad points and a little filing) could have gotten me in on that occasion.

I have to agree there. A single prop leaves a nice wash behind the boat

Wonder what that prop wash looks like from the fish's view...
