Nashua, N.H. – Simrad-Yachting, a leader in the design and manufacture of world-class marine navigation, auto steering, safety, communications and fishfinding systems, announced today the NSE series of multifunction marine electronic displays. The most integrated Simrad-branded system ever developed, the fully-networkable NSE is a powerful GPS Chartplotter with embedded cartography for out-of-the-box functionality.

The NSE series offers compatibility with some of the most powerful marine technological innovations available including the award winning BR24 Broadband Radar and the BSM-1 Broadband Sonar Module, as well as Sirius weather integration. Incorporating a newly designed user interface that combines elements of Northstar’s legendary direct access functionality with Simrad-Yachting’s powerful menu access, the attractive low-profile NSE is the ideal combination of functionality and accessibility for discriminating professional and recreational boaters.

Designed for the ultimate in ease of use, the slim-line NSE Multifunction System incorporates a smart, new menu-driven user interface that includes specific user modes designed to maximize functionality for specific boating segments. Key features include a rotary dial with logical push-to-enter selection that provides convenient function access and cursor control, direct access keys to simplify operation and an alphanumeric keypad that makes data entry a snap. NSE systems feature Simrad SunViewTM screens that incorporate an innovative, low-power white LED backlighting technology. SunView displays are rated at a bright 1500 nits for full sunlight viewing and have a 120-degree viewing angle.

“With our new Simrad NSE multifunction display, we started from scratch to develop a system that gives boaters the best performance, an incredibly intuitive user interface and industry leading expansion capabilities in an attractive slim profile package," said Louis Chemi, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Navico Americas. “Designed with the highest quality for the ultimate in dependability, it is truly the industry’s best of breed multifunction device. The NSE systems are equally at home at the helm of a luxury yacht or workboat cockpit.”

All NSE series systems purchased in North American are fully loaded with Nautic Insight HD high-resolution vector cartography. Providing navigators high-resolution 2D and 3D shaded contour and satellite imagery information, Nautic Insight HD navigation cartography includes detailed shoreline and safety navigation data including spot sounding, navaids and obstructions. NSE units are also compatible with Nautic Path charts and NavionicsÒ Platinum, Platinum+ and HotMaps Platinum cartography. In addition, NSE units feature Navionics TurboViewTM, a new dimension in navigation that offers smooth pan and zoom plus viewing rotation, as well as 2D and 3D Platinum and Platinum+ cartography chart views with depth and elevation contour shadings.

The NSE series is available in two screen sizes, the 12.1-inch diagonal NSE12 sports a 1024 x 768 resolution and up to a 600:1 contrast ratio; and the 8-inch diagonal NSE8 has an 800 x 600 pixel screen resolution and up to an 850:1 contrast ratio. Featuring a rugged die-cast aluminum housing with a direct bonded screen, NSE series systems are easy to install with a stylish, low-profile plastic front bezel that provides a sleek, flush-mount look. The NSE12 measures 10.5 x 14.0 x 4.8-inches (H x W x D) and weighs 15.0 pounds; and the NSE8 measures 8.4 x 11.2 x 4.4-inches (H x W x D) and weighs 10.6 pounds. Both models offer two composite video inputs and one DVI video output, and a USB port on the front and the back of the unit. The systems draw low current and are compatible with both 12 and 24V DC power systems. NSE systems are waterproof to the IPX7 (submersible) standard, and are protected by a two-year limited parts and labor warranty.
