    Should I repower my Mako?

Looking for some input on my boat. I am the original owner of a 1997 221 mako center console. The hull is in great shape w/ fresh electronics. The motor (1997 200 Yamaha) has seen better days. If I repower, seriously considering a 225 or 250 Etec , new fuel tank, Powdercoat the T-Top and new non skid, I am in the 25k range. Then I would have new power w/ a 5-6 year warranty and should have a reliable rig. Do you think this is the best use of 25K? (towards a boat). I could also sell the boat and take the proceeds plus 25K and move on. Obviously used 5-6 year old 21-23 Parker , Jones Brothers etc. let's hear it. Thanks.

    Hi
One or two or perhaps three things are going off in my mind right now having read your question, number one you know your boat inside out how she runs what to do when poo hits the fan, how she kicks in a following sea etc. Number two it is only a 25k upgrade not a fortune, when considering a different hull or boat, if you buy a "new" boat, this could triple the cost with tarting it up getting it right for you with electronics etc. Number three with that small upgrade how much will your current boat be worth after the one more season more or less? Lots of questions the grass is not always greener on the other side. to use a Zulu expression travel slowly, "Hamba Gashly"

    I think,

Eventually all boats need a new engine. Especially an outboard. Its never an economic decision in the sense they all go down in value while the cost goes up. You need to think.........Is this boat still meeting your needs? Have you changed your fishing? I know when I did, I wanted a different boat. I cant flats fish in a 29 blackfin. Also, sometimes you just need a change. Think about what you do, what you want, and where you want to go. That will answer your question.

    I have a 1980 25'6" mako..

I replaced a set of tanks (86 gal. and a 23 gal. original ) to a single 100 gallon tank. I also went to Dusky marine down here in Dania beach florida and bought a year old with warrantee at the time 250 etec. I repainted the boat awlgrip and I built a lace-less t-top and seat. I have 21k in the boat when I was done.

yes I like her, she cuts water and runs like the wind with the e tec and it burns around 82-88 galons of fuel to a gallon of oil and gets anywhere from 1.7 to 2.1 mpg ..

good luck with the decision.. mine has been for sale at 17k though ..

I had to make the same decision last year with my 01 mako 232 last year .I spent 9 years setting it up the way I wanted it .For me it was better to repower then start over . If your like the boat repower if not it mite be time to move on .
