we had a small discussion about warranty repairs...boats are not like cars when it comes to service...don't believe all the dealer claims and the sales person's claims too...
here's the problem...i gotta shamrock at the shop,it's a '00 246,the boat's got incredibly low use,it hasn't been used for a few season,as per owner...the hull is actually broken,in the forward section, not good,it's broken and the stringers are detached from the hull...it's a real mess we've got here...i had to cut the cabin deck up to gain more access...well...upon cutting up the cabin deck,it discovered a piece of the bulkhead,it was cut off at the factory and left there-nice huh ?? the bulkhead is also short about 1"...the bulkhead is atached using a lite weight piece of 3/4oz build up matt-it has torn...the stringers are actually loose on the hull, they were never laminated into the hull...the stringers were lightly glassed to the hull, the glass has torn loose...this boat was this way from the factory,it was not built correctly...it's a wonder this hull didn't fail long ago,due to the flexing of the hull's bottom... now,i took matters into my own hands and called the factory,i spoke to rose@palmer marine-shamrock boats.she asked me to email pictures, which i did.a few days later,i was contacted by jenifer, from bladen composites, she explained to me,the boat was out of warranty, and nothing would be done,i stressed the point the boat was built poorly from the factory and the light use the boat has had,i asked for a little consideration, she assured me,dan the plant manager, would work with me on this and he would get back to me the next day...next day never happened,i called bladen,i was told he was tied up and he would get back to me,never happened...3 times this happened...i called palmer marine again,i asked to speak to mr palmer-the owner...what do you know,he called me later...i explained the situation,he told me to give him a week and he'll have an answer for me...i gave the gentleman, almost 2 weeks...ten days to be exact...today was time to call again...i actually got bo palmer on the phone not a good thing though...mr palmer recalled talking to me,however,he assured me,he told me he would get back to me much later,2 to 3 months he would have an answer can you imagine this,2 to 3 months...well...we all know i speak my mind, right?? i explained to bo,he assured me 1 week,we reached a sticking point...truth of the matter is,bo palmer is not a man of his word, the gentleman has "selective memory"...2 to 3 months ?? you believe that??i tell everyone this for a reason, not to trash shamrock boats, truth is,i never did a structual repair on an older shamrock hull, this is the first one,i tell you guys this because,be careful what you buy,you may have a problem,if you do,you want a company to stand up and take care of the problem and solve the issue...how many of you guys would want to wait to get an answer on what they're gonna do in 2 to 3 months ??? with all that,i would never reccomend anyone purchase a new or still under warranty shamrock-sorry,but that's how i see it...if a company doesn't stand behind their product, don't buy it..."f" shamrock,"f" bo palmer...anyone wanna see pictures of a really "f"'d up boat ???

Thats BS that somebody would let a boat go out for sale like that. I mean don't the hulls need to be inspected after construction. and then they are scared because they f'ed up bad.

There is a long thread on T H T regarding shamrock and their quality. Too bad, I have often admired their layouts and always wanted a ride on one. The old 26's are beautiful and I love the layout of both the 22 and 246 walkarounds.

i gotta resize these pics and i'll post them up...i tried to work this out with bo palmer, however, this gentleman is not a man of his word...this boat is at my shop and you're all welcomed to come and see it...i'll throw this out there too...if any of the surveyors on this site,if you guys wanna check it out, you're more than welcomed to it... this is a disgrace, the factory that built this rig should be embarrassed... ![]()

pictures...
here's a few pctures...
first a little more info... the forward section of the hull's bottom is actually able to be "pushed in",due to the flexing of the substrate...the hull's bottom wasn't held firm it would actually occilate-hard to believe i know... the pictures show the stringers and how they're detached from the hull... also, this company used nida core as a core for the bulkheads...that kinda scares me,nida core isn't a structual material, the nida core has a layer of matting on each side, the matting appears to be 3/4oz... again,i gotta stress this...i tried to work this out with the factory...i got a run around like you would never believe-i was friggin' dizzy...i urge everyone who has even thought about looking at a new shamrock,to reconsider their decision...i wouldn't purchase anything from bo palmer's company...they refuse to stand behind anything...

Jimmy I respect your opinions (even if I dont agree with them all the time) but Nida core is advertised a strutural material http://www.nida-core.com/english/nid...info_rigid.htm "Polypropylene honeycombs remain a viable core of choice for superstructures, floors, bulkheads, stringers and hull sides as well as numerous small composite parts and structures." Companies like Jefferson Yachts, Marlago, Eastern Boats, Judge Yachts, Mckinna Megayachts, Trident Megayachts, (and maybe even bertram -- not clear if they use for stringers) key west boats, caravelle, etc all use Nida core in their structure. While I am not a boat builder or even work on my own boat I am surprised you have that opinion. Can you explain? Thanks

and yes...more pictures...
i drilled a hole in the bottom of the boat,i used a 11/8" hole saw,i did this to show the thickness of the hull,it shows the quality of the lay up...the picture show this isn't very good...read the thickness it's there, both, with the vernier calipers and a tape measure...
the pictures show the failures, the pictures also show the poor quality construction techniques...this boat has been built very poorly...this boat was destined for failure while it was being built... this isn't the first 246 i've seen with a hull problem, shelter cove marina had one, shelter cove is the shamrock dealer, the 246 they had, suffered froma delamination of the hull's bottom,it was a large area of delamination, the hull was replaced by the factory,it wasn't a quick process-i happen to know the surveyor who checked out the boat... again,i'm no politically correct choir boy...the first conversation i had with bo palmer,i was incredibly polite and submissive, the conversation i had with him today,i blasted him...i blasted him based on the fact he didn't hold up to his end of the bargain,he told me he would call me in 1 week, during or conversation today,bo told me,2 or 3 months,he would have a decision,he stated he told me that during our first conversation...i realize there's 3 sides to a story, your side, their side and the truth,my side is the absolute 100% truth, there's absolutley no slant towards me on it...bo palmer also told me"i was not helping my customer by talking to him about this problem"...now,let's think about this for a second..."i'm not helping my customer",i went outta my way here,i contacted the factory based upon what i seen when i opened the boat up,what i seen was pretty clearly a case of poor workmanship...i contacted the factory,i was polite and i stated my case,as well as provided proof of my findings...bo palmer is the cause of me taking this public,he had the opportunity to straighten this out,he chose not to...i attempted to work this out...again,i urge anyone who doubts what i say or what i have posted to come over and take a look for themself...
