here's a prime example of how NOT to get something covered under warranty:

A 56-year-old man from the Midwestern US state of Wisconsin has been arrested after shooting his lawn mower in his garden because it would not start.

Keith Walendowski was charged by police in Milwaukee with disorderly conduct and possession of a sawn-off shotgun.

He could face a fine of up to $11,000 and a maximum prison sentence of six-and-a-half years if convicted.

Police officers said Mr Walendowski had told them: "It's my lawn mower and my yard, so I can shoot it if I want."

Police found the shotgun, a handgun and a stungun, as well as ammunition, when they detained Mr Walendowski in the basement of his house.

Witnesses told police that he appeared to have been drinking.

The lawn mower was found sitting outside Mr Walendowski's house, which he shares with his mother, with the rubbish on Friday.

A local retailer said that Mr Walendowski might now have difficulty getting his lawn mower repaired.

"Anything not factory recommended would void the warranty," said Dick Wagner, of Wagner's Garden Mart in Milwaukee.

Three sides to a story...

A wise man once said that every story has 3 sides: one guy's side, the other guy's side and the truth.

I purchased a Shamrock MacKinaw directly and in person from Bo Palmer in January of 2007. That was the last time I had a friendly or honest discussion with him. Although Jimmy's postings may be a bit aggressive and crude, they are understandable and believable. Deny and evade are the standard responses from Palmer Marine. Based on my experience, the posted response of Bo Palmer on July 23rd is mostly balony. The boat is fantastic, the company is a joke.

Right up until this week there have been minor but lingering warranty issues and the response from Shamrock/Bo Palmer has been, at best, pathetic. Dealer support is non-existent and "factory approved" independent service techs never answer the phone and never call back.

I would normally agree not to make this stuff personal. But it is. The boats are generally sound as a dollar, the office personnel at Palmer Marine are always pleasant, but they respond to serious inquiries with "I'll have to check with Bo." Bo likes to be the "president" on good days and refers you to the non-existent dealers or warranty department when things look bad. Check his background, if Bo is a real company president, then I am the Pope!

At the core, the Shamrock is a great boat. But with the current management and push to move Shamrock buyers to the inferior Defiance line built by Palmer, it's days may be numbered. Let's hope that Palmer sells the greatness of Shamrock to a serious, high end boat builder.

Those old Shamrock 20 pilot house models are great. They are wet and aren't the fastest in the world but are incredibly tough and will take unbelievable punishment. I've come close to buying one several times; but, since a friend of mine has one I just ride on his boat!
