SEA TRIALED 2000 38 FT RAMPAGE SEEMS SLOW??????????

Sea trialed a 2000 model 38 ft Rampage seems slow. 2150RPMS 18.4 knotsWas thinking this boat should run 25 to 27 knots. It has TAMD 74P 480HP.It has Trolling valves on it and the Broker nor I new anything about them. There is a Idle 1 and an Idle 2 switch as well as a Troll 1 and a Troll 2 switch. Does anybody know what position these switches should be in? I love the layout of the boat and everything but 18 KNOTS , This cannot be right. I have a surveyer comming Thursday but was hopping for a little input before then.

Could have a fouled bottom or shafts. This would slow it down. A friend of mine had the same boat and only had a 22knot cruise with the same engines. Good luck.

    the turtle

These (original version) boats, with primarily Volvo TAMD's as OEM power, have a great ride but are known as 'turtles'. My best friend has a 31 w/165 hp TAMD's - great head-sea ride - but slow - cruise about 15 knots (with a clean bottom btw). Also, the boat is loud, which in my book is a fatal flaw, in spite of sound-down/sound-up/& sound-sideways...I've also ridden in a 31 w/300hp Yanmars -big difference! - If you're serious, ask more question(s) about the engines - the hulls are rock solid -good luck!

    Thumbs up

We found out that we were looking on the depth finder screen for the speed, which consists of a little star wheel on transducer for pick up which was full of grass. When we put the GPS on , we were cruising 24.9 knots @ 2200 RPM , WOT was 29.8 Knots @2600 RPM's . I was trying to pay attention to how the boat ran and handled and did not realize that the broker had the depth finder on and not the GPS. It was such a releif to see the actual cruise speed. we are actually taking possesion tommorrow. was surprised we did not have more input on these boats. Thank you anyway.

the boat the gentleman is referring to,is a "new" rampage.
those old rampage boats,we called them "slampage",those boats would bash your head in - balsa cored hull's were also a serious problem - but again, that was then, this is now...
