I am looking to add a sat phone to the boat this year and know little to nothing about them. i have heard from a few people that Iridium phones are the way to go. does anyone know a good place to get one used or really cheap? it would be used mainly for emergency purposes and occasional updates to home. any info would be great.

Iridium is def the way to go I had A globalstar and A buddy had A globalstar and they didnt work more than half of the time,I hear that Iridium is the way to go.You might want to try an ebay store to see what they cost.I know I will be in the market for A new sat phone by early summer and thats what I am aiming to do.

This is where I got my Iridium 9505A. Be careful about how many minutes you buy. You may not use as many as you think. I bought 500 minutes initially and didn't use that many in 24 months. Think I still had over 150 minutes when the chip expired.
