    Question Sat phones

Globalstar has a deal 299.00 plus minutes plan.

I have read they are not the best,my 1 time i borrowed one it worked fine and quick and it was an overcast day.

this and a life raft are my last 2 safety items i want, the phone would be more for a medical emergency or maybe if we want to turn a day trip into an overnighter we could call someone and let them know..its not something we would use every trip, although with unlimited minutes,ya never know..

    toughts?opinions?

    Gut Wrench,

I sold my boat a month ago and I kept my life raft.

I would like to sell it ($1400.00). It was new in 2004, 8 man Viking. It was serviced in 07 and is good until (i think 7-09). It also has a mounting carriage. It weighs 100 lbs so shipping could be a little tough. If your are interested pm me. I also have Global Star sat phone I will throw in for free.

I too am interesting in what people say in regard to Globalstar today.

I personally have used it and it sucks here but I have heard mixed reviews. The bad definitely outweighs the good

    GLOBALSTAR SAT PHONES -SUCK!!!!

I too would like a sat phone, but the $$$ are ridiculous from what I see for the actual phone. I would borrow one before a trip before spending the coin on one

Does anyone know if globalstar has improved its service/sat's?

our globalstar sat phone is finally starting to work after 2 years of horrible service and refunds it still drops calls but at least you can have a conversation now for a few minutes, on our trip back from the bahamas to shinnecock it worked almost all of the time??? maybe they really did fix it some?

I would personally stick with Iridium. They have had much better service and I think they will continue to have superior service than Globalstar.

Hey after all the military uses Iridium and they can't have their system down at all.

I used it the last 2 yrs,and it was the worst....stopped my plan last year....They kept telling me the new satelites are up,and running, and everything will be fine by mid summer(2007)......I have the SPOT,which I can at least check in,and or send an emergency signal, and 911 ,with exact location, almost immediately,to friends and family cell phones, and computers(up to 8)....works well....along with an EPIRB,and liferaft.....

I too thought of the personal eprib last night that will work every time and would be better to have then relying on something that should get wet such as a sat phone.

Odds are better if you ask me! Cheaper too! Who knows if you will be able to even talk, with hyperthermia setting in or what ever battery dies? Lost signal? Means they have no idea where you are at!
