    salt

    can anybody give mea reason why salt is building up around my flame arrestors to the point of choking my motors. 454's in a 34 luhrs conv. thanks john

    check the risers-sounds like you're drawing water back into the engine...that's bad,real bad...bad bad...you're killing the engines,you're a mechanic,you know how bad saltwater going in the intake is...
    take the breather hoses off,run the engine till it gets to normal temp,see if the hoses are steaming...if they are,you found your problem,there's mositure in the engine...it may not show on the oil dipstick,moisture rises to the highest point-you will see it in the flame arresters,and the distributor first-highest points...

    Salt

    Sounds to me like you are sucking salt spray into your engine room. As the moist salty air is sucked into the arrestor, the water evaporates leaving a salt crust.

    That salt will be the death of your engines. You had better install engine roon vent filters ASAP.

    thanks for the response. it turns out its not salt its my belts. i need to replace a rusted pulley that is tearing up my alt belt

    belt soot is black,it's sticky.belt soot and salt are 2 very different things...
