Thats crazy. What are those, roller furlers? WHY?!?! You can only use them going downwind and I bet they are a PITA to control.

Should add it to my work in progress; Stupid things people do to boats.

why could you only use them downwind? Looking at the photo closely looks like they are set up like regular outriggers, just used the poles instead of aluminum with spreaders.

They look to me like they were designed to reduce aerodynamic drag compared to standard outriggers. They certainly have a much cleaner profile than the standard tubular aluminium riggers with multiple spreaders - almost look like the winglets on the tips of modern aircraft wings.

I remember seeing photos of a very unconventional looking tower on a Tribute (?) or similar custom vessel a couple years ago. I'm a little surprised why such developments are not more commonly seen, given how speed is a priority these days. Maybe even more important than speed is how most buyers of these big SF wish their dream sport fisherman to look.

I like the way it looks. I like to see the marine design industry continue to move forward.

That boat has been at Bayliss for awhile...was it getting repowered? I saw that rig for the first time in the Bahamas a couple years ago. Some interesting attributes for sure.

    Here's the Tribute-
I believe it has an internal spiral staircase to reach the tower.

I think you are right about building what the owner wants. You do have to make sure that it fits within the standards of good lines. I have seen some very ugly boats that owners and a builder that needs to build a boat have come up with. Innovation doesn't need to be ugly it can be sharp, sleek and gorgeous.

Now that boat would look better with the sail mast outriggers, ascetically!

How do the sail mast perform when spread out? There's got to be a weight, pitch polling issue!
