Off the t top weld 2 or 3 stanchons coming down to a good level and mount a crossbar from them, then weld your rocket launchers to that. Now you can reach your rods, and don't compromise watertightness integrity or structural. You may not have taken much water over thetransom in the past, but that can't tell what can happen in the future.

I would definatly have to agree that putting rod holders back there is a not a good idea wake or wave over the transom you will be in trouble. Think of how quick water comes in if you forget to put the drain plug in, thats takes on water quick and a 3" hole x's 2 your bilge pump will never keep up. If you were to do it I would see if there would be a way to fabricate a drain system to an overboard thru hull. Next would be thinkness of glass and the structure back there. Just my O2

Put a piece of 3/4 inch plywood across the splash guard. Glassed in. That way you will have one big splash guard. Then you can put Rod holders all the way across the stern. Or just put a few in. You can through bolt the rod holders so they can be put in really well. My father in law did this on his 23 foot sea ox. It works well.

Don't have a handy picture of this - but I fixed a Pursuit with this problem once. Buy a sheet of 1/2 Starboard - very easy to work with and looks/lasts great.

1 Make yourself a splashwell door that spans the inboard transom
2 Affix with a (long) piano hinge at the bottom so that you can lay down to access stern or when you tilt engine.
3 Either build in or affix rod holders on the back side of starboard.

On my rig - I did not need holders, so built a cutting board/rigging shelf to finish the top.

This solution will keep you dryer in the stern, significantly reduce perceived engine noise, and give you a platform for rod holders.

I'll look for a photo.

Have I seen some of these on older Gradys??
I'm assuming they're not stock.
If I remember, some Gradys have what you are explaning, just never seen holders on it.

Thanks for the responses guys....some great ideas

Is there a product like this, but made to bolt through whatever instead of mounting to a rail??

I was thinking of putting two or four of those where shown???

Don't know if you can see it, but to the sides it is vertical with a seat/storage on either side

Wonder if this will work??

Thanks
Fintan

Birdsal marine sells rodholders like the ones in your pic that you can bolt to a flat surface. I put a couple along my transom and they have worked out great.
