    Ricky Scarborough 41

In the mid 1980's Scarborough built a handful of 41 foot flybridge boats; they sure had beautiful lines. I noticed a thread a few years ago on a specific boat but it did not give any specifics on the boats like length, beam, weight, how they handled a following sea, etc. Does anyone have any specific information on these neat carolina built boats or have first hand knowledge as to them? Thanks.

Their boat was powered by 3208 cats and it was called WAVIN for the brothers names Wayne and Vince. The other boat never got delivered to my friend because of problems concerning Esstetics not Quality. My friend is very Anal, That is an understatment!!! He sold his boat before delivery and I wont go into specifics.Out of friendship.

    For sale in SC

thought I saw one for sale in SC, being redone.

A good friend of mine had an original 40' Ricky Charterboat 1980 single engine, 555 cummins when she was built and a 892 later.

He would charter fish and gillnet fish out of that boat!

The #1 question I have concerns center of gravity. It is a real nightmare for a marine architect to get the center of gravity far enough rearward in a flybridge boat made of wood. This is why expresses are so common in this size range. The result is a somewhat "squirrely" nature in a following sea. This is my #1 question. Thanks for any info offered.

George McCullogh ran a 41' or thereabouts Ricky boat named the Janie Mac for many years out of Wachapreague, VA. He sold it a few years ago, whereabouts now unknown.

    Janie Mac

Capt Stu she was at teaches lair for awhile the new owner painted the hull blue instead of the yellow color that she was when George owned her . I have fished on her and she rode great in a following sea she was not a problem and I sure miss that rig sitting in our slip .

I also fished on the Janie Mac several times it was a very nice boat and George was a pretty good guy, I have wondered what happened to him and the Mac.

Sorry JPH maybe we got off track a little? Back then you only had a few carolina boats being built and the ricky boats were not squirrely in a following sea. They were a little broader up front so as not to dig in on a following sea. I also used to run a sonny briggs that was the best head sea boat I was ever on. BUT she would get crazy in a following sea!Almost dangerous.I ran it up and down the coast and back and forth in the bahamas many times. It would seem to be OK in a rough following sea and then without warning stage right! As far as express it doesnt matter its the deep narrow fore foot that caused it not the house and bridge! I hope I answered your original post?
