Thanks for the reply. What was your opinion of the 41? I remember one boat in particular when it was brand new, gorgeous lines but I never crossed paths with that owner.

JPH, not sure about the 41' but I run a 1989 50' Ricky. Solid as a rock in a following sea and will take most head seas well around 18kts. Been in some nasty stuff and through some nasty inlets with her. Ricky builds some great boats. If you know the hull #, you can call Ricky and off the top of his head, he knows what key to cut to open the door...![]()
The old Janie Mac is in Charleston South Carolina and is in the last stages of being completely rebuilt. My good friends at Hanckel Marine bought her and have really done a nice job re-building her. Ricky Jr. has gone down numerous times and has said what a nice job they are doin. They re-faired the entire boat, and shaved the keel down, reglassed and re-faired the bottom. Put all new running gear in the boat, New fuel tanks, re-wired and re-plumbed the boat. Put in a little mezzanine, re-powered with a set of 430 volvos, and are having a new hardtop built along with all new metal work. The boat is for sale and you can get a hold of Milo Hankcel at 843-556-2550. I was there checkin it out last fall, and let me tell you, they spared no expense in this project. She is goin to be better than new. These boats were great when they were built and now with the running gear and power systems brought up to todays standards I can't think of a boat in this size range that will compete economically or on the ocean.
Jonny D can you get some pictures and post them for us boat wackos
She was a 41 out of Ocean City, MD, where is she now?
I'd sure enjoy seeing some of those pics of the old Janie Mac!
JPH:
Ricky also built a 39 footer originally named the AGITATOR. Very good looking boat owned by a guy in Delaware. It came up for sale in the mid 80's & I dreamed of buying it but didn't have the wherewithal, financially. Like you I'd like to see a snapshot of the re-done JANIE MAC (I went to Hanckel's Marine web site but nothing there). The market got so good for the builders in Wanchese that they poured all their resources into boats bigger than 50' for the most part. Maybe now with their businesses slowing they'll offer a few flybridge or expresses less than 40'.

The Agitator is in Ricky's barn right now being rebuilt. My older brother bought the boat last winter and has Ricky completing her. The boat will be named the Agitator as she was when she was launched, and anyone who knows my bro, knows this is the perfect name for his boat. She too is being completely restored from the keel up. It's going to be an incredible little rig. She will be tied up in Sunset Marina this summer after gettin a shakedown cruise on the chesapeake for spring rockfish season. Her keel was shaved down from about 12 inches to 3inches. The bottom was sodablasted down to the original glass and another layer of 1708 biaxial cloth was added followed by new q-cell and refaired and then sealed with the interlux epoxy based barrier coat. The entire boat was stripped out inside and all her bottom frames were sistered and all bilges were refinished. New fuel tanks and all new plumbing and wiring for her. The 3208's were scrapped and now she has a pair of 490 cummins coupled to zf 2.25x1 gears. The running gear is all new and the old school stainless shaft logs were replaced with fiberglass logs and the intermediate struts were eliminated and the orcott intermediate cutlass was placed in the tail of the shaft log. The rudder ports are now Southeastern foundries dripless ports which have no metal through hull, and are glassed in, with an orcott bearing inside. Shaft tubes on the new 2.25" shafts Veem 4 blade 26 x 36 props. Expected cruise is around 29kts. Interior is going to be a no nonsense no clutter layout. Two couches in the salon, and a small galley, Below is one head, and a day bunk, and forward a vee berth. All new decks and covering boards in the pit, not to mention the mezzanine seating outboard each side of the salon door on a small raised teak deck with a drink box insulated storage under each hatch . Each setee outboard has a drink box, storage inside it and one side is plumbed as a 40 gallon livewell. The bridge helm has been completely redesigned and now has an actuated electronics box that will house a 12"Northstar 6100i and a 12" Navnet 3d for the fishfinder and radar combo. A Bausch hardtop, with drop down radio box and electric teaser reel box and pipework round out her topsides. She was painted with Imron's newest coating, and the ice blue hull with snow white topside gives a very classic look for a classic carolina boat. I wish I had some pics of both the Agitator and the Ol Janie Mac. I will try and get my brother to post them; and will see if Milo has any new pics.
Oh, and by the way, the old Brigand is in Ft. Lauderdale. She too is for sale.
JonnyD:
Thanks for the update & detail on your brother's boat. It would be great to see some snapshots if time & circumstance allow.
