Repowering the Bite Me

Just wanted to let everyone know that the Bite Me will be getting a new motor in her this winter.

We will be repowering the Bite Me with a Cat C-18 ACERT D.

This new motor is very simmilar to the one in her now, but a little more power and more usable power.

We will likely be doing this work sometime after Jan1 and will hopefully be done by March sometime.

I am trying to line up another boat to run while we have the Bite Me in the yard, so if you want to go fishin this winter, I think we will be able to go.

We are going to finish out the year fishing but I can't wait to get started on the new motor install!

Jay is this the 1200 hp or the 1015 hp?

it is an Acert "D" rating 885mhp @ 2200rpm

If you look at the torque and HP curves it is basically the 1015 they just set the governer at 2200, makes its power down low and meets EPA Teir 2 Commercial.

I wanted to reuse my gear also, so I was limited to 900hp.

My boat shoves pretty easy and if the c-15 was EPA Compliant that is what I would be putting in.

Well, I contacted Cat yesterday and my motor is built and will be leaving Peoria IL soon.

Getting ready to get really busy.

Ran the Bite Me to the boatyard yesterday and shut the motor off for the last time. The 2000 3406E has 13236 hours on her and was a damn good motor.

Start unhooking today.

We have lined up another rig to run during the repower, so we will be available for fishing all through the work.

Untill the new motor is in the Bite Me we will be running charters on the Capt Snag, it is BC hull no 5, the one built right after the Bite Me, it is basically the same boat as mine.

We yanked the motor out today, with a little help from my friends.

I wish I had my camera at the boatyard, but it happened so quick that I did not have a chance to take any pics till the smoke cleared.

Here it is sittin the driveway on a trailer.

Hopefully it wont be long till its "in with the new"
