PUT A LITTLE DISH SOAP IN A CUP OF WATER AND USE THAT RATHER THAN SPITTING ON YOUR FINGER OR ICE CUBE, IT WORKS WAY BETTER AND NEVER STICKS TO THE CAULK, ALSO WHEN EVER YOU CAN USE A SLICKER{LOOKS LIKE A BUTTER KNIFE}. I'LL SECOND THE USE OF TAPE ON EITHER SIDE AS WELL. KEEP THE CAULK THIN, AND IF THE GAP IS TO DEEP, THEN USE CLOSED CELL FOAM/BACKER ROD, THEY SELL IT IN ROLLS OF VARIOUS SIZES ALONG WITH SLICKERS AT ANY PAINT STORE.

Over the years I've switched to boat life caulk. Once in a blue moon 5200 doesn't set up/kick for some reason. Plus if Boat Life is good enough for the coast guard, its good enough for me.

Boat life caulk

I keep a tube of the cures underwater in my tool kit on the boat JIC.

Again thanks for all the tips guys. Need to get some blue or green tape now, cause if a mess can be made doing something like this then with my luck it will happen.

Thanks again guys for the help. Put the first bead down without tape to fill in the most of the gap. Turned out ok after some trimming with the blade. Taped everything off for the final bead yesterday. Took the tape off today at lunch and she lokks pretty darn good even though I suck at caulking, painting and other types of finish work like this.
