Got to spend a day offshore in a 28 Southport

she drifted well and ran smooth and dry

had an the afternoon 2-3 head sea / wind chop for a few hours

with 8 POB there was plenty of room

Dash lay out could be improved

    plenty of storage space

lacked tackle storage but i hear they have changed the tackle center to improve that problem

planes out at low speeds as advertised

    fit and finish was A1

The 28Southport is a true work of art, from the 250Gallaon Tuna Coffin in the front, to the Carolina Flare, to the smooth dry ride, it can't be beat....Have to test ride one to really know....and does it raise fish ?....I think so...And it looks good with a boat full of Pirates coming in the Inlet !.....Bob

    Yellowfin

I currently have the 36' Yellowfin -- Ordered a 42' -- I've had 2 Regulators in the past -- fished on Contenders all throughout Fla. Fished Ventures and Jupiters and Sea Vees -- Never the Triton -- I agree the JC is not layed out well for fishing at all -- went over it at the Norwalk Boat Show. None of these boats can do what the 36 Yellowfin can do -- at least in my experience. Speed, range, performance and finish. The downside is that there are no local dealers -- but we do have a Northeast Rep that takes care of everything we need. But you end up doing alot of fix-its yourself when things break or whatever.

Guys, you have to be kidding me with the Triton over a Regulator or Contender!!!!! I have owned a Triton for four months and could not wait to get rid of it! The boat bounds in everything. After my second month the stress cracks in the transom were unbearable.
I have owned a Regulator for two years know and have been offshore in some pretty nasty stuff and made it back safe. The boat is extremely heavy and is made for the Northeast

I have fished on just about every single center console mentioned up and down the sea board. I have owned makos. sea vees, contenders, whitewater, and fished on just about everything else. from my stand point very few things compare to a Yellowfin. The regulator of the same size is a pig and burns twice as much fuel. The 31 contender is a Great ride but a litttle wet. I was on a triton a month ago and I find it to be pretty we laid out with the exception of the forward seating. fountains are nice ride but the design on the inside isnt really dedicated to fishing. All I can say is narrow your list down to a handful of boats and take a ride in them. You will see the difference.

Tough to beat the 31' Contender Cuddy. Not sure where you are located but if you want to take a ride on it let me know. In terms of all around performance from a 31' center console I find it hard to beat this boat.

Take a look at the new Cape Horn 36 its a beast and if it's anything like the 31 it'll eat up the big stuff. NO frills boat but rock solid hard core fishing machine.

I have fished on all three...In my opinion, the YF is the best boat on the market...My buddy has the 36' YF with trip 275 Verados...I did see one in the Bahamas with quad 300 Optimax...These boats have no problems fishing 10 ft seas in the winter Bahamas waters...They are made for extreme fishing.
