You can use any wood you like. Most of the chairs by the major manufacturers are teak and they take the epoxy just fine, if you want a really good bond on the first coat so the epoxy bites into the wood , thin it a bit

Bubinga is some hard azz wood. I build a recurve bow and used it as the riser material , that stuff is harder the concrete!
Believe me, I know . It was hard to work with ,but the color and grain are very nice.
Another choice would be Jatoba - Brazilian Cherry - It is dense and heavy, but very tough. It doesn't ding easily and is fairly cheap as exotic hardwoods go.
It takes finish well, and it is fairly easy to find large slabs like you would want for a rocket launcher.
Hey Mike: Did you build that rocket launcher ?? I like the space for cutting and the drink holders. How far apart are your rod holders on the rocket launcher ??
SG,
No, i did not build it. I just sanded it down to bare wood and re-finished it, polished rod holders and replaced all hardware & cupholders.
I belive the rod holders are around 12" apart, maybe 10". Not 100% on that. I know that they're wide enough for (4) Penn 70 two speed reels to fit.
