Recommendations for Marine AM FM Stereo Receiver With CD Player

My son and a French exchange student staying with us cleaned the boat after our most recent waterskiing trip and got into a bit of a water fight in the cockpit. They'd left the splash cover open on the AM FM CD radio and it got a good shot of water in it to the point it stopped working altogether.

My son feels bad about it and, perhaps selfishly so he can entertain the dollies when he skis, wants to replace it as a Xmas gift. So, he asked me which one I'd like.

Heck, I don't know. And, these things have probably come a long ways regarding technology since we bought the last cheap one for about $130 as I recall.

So, I'd like some recommendations of brands and models if some of you marine electronics offionados care to help out.

As it's a gift and as the old one didn't cost too much I'd feel like I was taking advantage of the kid if I told him to buy one much more expensive than the last. So, I'd like to keep the cost near $150 or less. But if there's a compelling reason to kick in some more money for an excellent model then I'm willing to do it.

Also, the last one got doused and, as a result, ruined. Sure the splash guard was open. But if the model was water proof or reliably water repellant that would be a real plus. He's a dope when he gets around his friends and they tend to be rowdy when they're home from skiing. So, it's likely that the splash guard will be inadvertently left open again and if the new radio is not water-repellant we'll have to go through this exercise again.

    Thanks for any recommendations.

West Marine has the Sony MDX/10 package with 2 6.5" speakers on sale this month for less than $140. That's a good, economical way to go. Other than that, get a Fusion deck. A little more money but definitely worth it.

Poly Planer has always been my favorite. 110% waterproof and warranties for water damage and they are simple to deal with.

Cheap radios will work at best a year at a time they are not meant to stand up to the water enviroments and should remain in cars only

Also try Fusion Marine admin got one last year or the year before and even with his doings it still works and to date I haven't heard of it breaking!
