    real mess here...

old school 24 blackfin - gas powered - been suffering from a fuel odor for a while - tanks are original...

cut the deck - pulled the tanks out - pretty scary before pulling the tanks - the lift out deck hatches are dry rotted and delaminated beyond scary - feels like walking on sand, stepping on the deck - fwd deck hatch is frightening - the stbd side deck hatch - removed the screws, and the core stayed, while the glass skin popped off -nice huh ?

tanks were pulled, port side had,i stopped counting at 8 holes
stbd tank had a few too - the stbd tank, the owner used a "self tapping" screw in place of the 10/32 screws holding the sending unit in the tank

recored all 5 deck hatches - extensive glass repairs were required on 4 out of the 5

installed a set of custom spray rails i make - these WILL knock down the water - these WILL reduce spray - i laminate these to the hull

    check out the pictures

the first picture : that's not water - it's a mix of fuel, and sea water - the port fuel cell area was basically acting as a fuel tank - the area had no drain holes to the main bilge...

the owner of this boat was the luckiest gentleman walking on the planet - running a gas inboard, with a fuel odor...he needs to play the lottery

as part of this job - i had to refinish the cockpit deck - i opted to refinish the deck in "matterhorn white" awlgrip - it's got a slight grey tint to it,it's slightly darker than the stark white enamel, someonme attempted to spray(run) on the interior...

the owner asked about refinishing the teak - days of sanding to remove the years of neglect...

Absolutely gorgeous work! That owner should be proud of the new boat you gave him!
Seeing more and more cases of foamed-in tanks rotting out due to water being held against the tank. IMHO the only kind of tank that should be foamed-in is polyethelene, NEVER aluminum regardless of the coating, if any. Production builders still use it though and no matter what anyone says, that foam will eventually soak up water. The old stuff was worse but the newer two-part foams still do too.

Pulled this set out of a 25 year old Parker/Souwester last year, same thing owner said he smelled fuel. Tried to give him money to buy lottery tickets but he wanted it all for himself.

    Jimmy,

Does this mean you'll be able to turn your phone on now? Nasty lookin stuff there. Had a local boat that wasn;t quite so lucky a week or so around here. Stepped on the waste rail, bilge pump energized, boom! I'm sure you'll agree, never-ever ignore a gasoline "odor". Frank
