    Raw Water Pump rebuild

I have a 2005 Westerbeke 3.0 that is leaking raw water from the raw water pump like its made to do that I called two tech's out there about rebuilding it using a rebuild kit from Westerbeke and they said people no longer rebuild raw water pumps they just replace them..Is this true? Should I keep looking...maybe find a machine shop to work on it? Thoughts?

    Westerbeke RW Pump

    No need to replace it.
Pays to rebuild if you do it yourself. Pretty easy.

If you are having your mechanic rebuild it. 2 trips, seal kit, bench time...........cheaper to replace.

    Rebuild

I would rebuild it if you can get a kit, it is easy, and the only special tool you need is snap ring pliers.

Here is where I got my westerbeke parts:

I know my old westerbeke, they came out with a new pump that was way better than the old one, and I put one one and it lasted about twice as long as the old style.

If they have upgraded the pump, buy a new one, then rebuild it when it needs it, otherwise, get a kit and rebuild.

We just had the one in the Cabo replaced this year. The new version is supposed to have better designed seals than the original. With the old version there was a concern with raw water leaking into the oil due to internal seal failure. You could see where the tech was talking about when we pulled the old one off.

    *edit* Forgot to write year/model...
