    Radio Check

Is there a recommended schedule for radio checks? I'll do one, once a year or after a change but for me that's it. I'm not a heavy radio user but usually once or twice a trip I'll have a conversation and for me, this also serves as a check.

Am I not being diligent with my Radio Checks or has the rest of the world gone overboard with them? Since usually the check response is followed by a request for "how's the fishing there", this may not be all about safety.

Rather than beating around the bush...here's my point. It seems to me that people are doing radio checks just for the fun of it, or to start up a conversation, so it's become a bit of a peeve for me. The only ones that actually annoy me are people doing radio checks on an emergency channel, but listen to the number of checks next time your out...in the middle of the season. Yes some are valid and but all the rest...are our radios this unreliable?

Gotcha Good Cappy, I know what you mean. I DO like to listen a lil bit & see if someone I know is on the water. If so, I'll give them a shout, just to make sure I'm puttin out. Otherwise I'll ask for a check. I don't get into details but, I do give someone else the same courtesy, if they're requesting a check.

I don't run my lil rig every day & it does give me a lil piece of mind. Between the VHF & the celly I can get help IF needed.

Squelch up, Volume down, MY CORONA ON THE SIDE.
