I have programmed my Navnet before to sound an alarm if an object comes within a radius that I choose, normally at least five or more miles. I don't know if there is a collision alarm on average radars.

Thanks but I think I have the answer It is another bit of kit, AIS it has it all built in. The B (receive only ) level as far as I can see generally dose not, but all the A level ( send and receive ) seem to have.

I have an early 1980s vintage Furuno on Avenger and it has what they call a "Zone Alarm". You set up a marker at whatever range you prefer, and it will sound an alarm if a target enters that range.

You can sometimes look at manufacturers websites and download manuals for specific models. Then you can see what features they offer. I think that by the late '80s most radars offered similar features.
IE8 says this may be a phishing site....Well, DUH!!!!!!... Stupid jerks can't even spell fishing right.

Receive AIS will give you a tone at about 1/2 mile, not much warning. Radar can be set for what ever guard zone you choose.
