    radar

i'm replacing my raytheon radar which i have never been happy with and has been sent back to them twice.....i was looking at the furuno navnet vx2...the 1734c...which is the 4kw radome model and i wanted to see if anyone had any experience with this unit or any other recommendations...i can only stick w/a 7" screen as i have limited dash space....thanks

Just about anything will be better than a Raytheon. They are great on R&D but seem to always fall behind in application. The Furuno is a good choice. I used an older, small-screen Navnet Radar on a previous boat and was impressed. I am currently running a Northstar 958 integrated system, which utilizes a Sitex radome. It also provides a clear picture and good target definition. The only JRC I am familiar with is the itty-bitty, 2kW, 16 mile LCD and it provided surprising performance for the money. The larger JRC models are popular here in downeast Maine, but I am not familiar with them. My recent discussions with electronics reps seem to indicate that the Furuno Navnet V is probably the best way to go given its features, integration versatility, and quality.

    Showtime,

I have just installed that same radar on the survey boat... I have not had it out on the water since the install. The graphics are clear, the screens easy to navigate and it appears to be a nice system... I am leaving for Maine in a couple of days with that boat... When I return from that trip, I will let you know what I thought of the radar unit.

I fish on several boats with the furuno 4KW dome. It seems to do very well, just make sure that you mount it at the right angle too compensate for your boat up on plane.

thanks guys.....i know anyone i choose will be an improvement....i also am going to get a radar mount......the raytheon never performed well and it wasn't easy to use....most of my other components are furuno, but i chose the raytheon radar as it physically fit the best when i purchased it 5 years ago....
