question for the builders

I have aspirations to build an upper 20' cold mold center console. so far my experience has just been with ply on frame boats. I have access to cnc machines and operators to cut out jigs. My question is this...will a set of boat plans give me what i need to get my jigs cut out? this may sound elementary but thats because I am new to this. any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe?

Have you ever heard of lofting? Boat builders used to take a set of prints and scale the frames and other members on a large clean floor. Its almost a stage of boat building that is gone now with cad cam? Enougher term you will need to learn is ducks. They are the large heavy objects that allow you to trace a curve to the same radius as the scale drawing. God I am showing how old I are!

Bligh is correct, your question can be answered both yes and no, in a set of scantlings ( boat plans) you should get a body plan that has each frame drawn to scale of about 1" = 1', and a set of offests that plots these frames recorded in feet inches and eights some may have a + some nothing some a - the are in relation to water lines ( horizontal lines ) abkove and below the design water line , and buttick lines verticla port and starboard of the center line, you must take these offsets and digitize them and be sure your cnc cuts in a fair curve and not just connents the offset points, there is a good bit more info on this subject but this should get you started,, All the best!

Quit it brokensheer

Im getting tempted by your facts, terms and knowlege. Every day, sometimes atleast twice a day I have to talk myself out of building one more boat. I am actually in the process of redoing a 233 formula hull into a carolina style hull. just for fun. I own two. I am doing this with the spare.

Bligh, I think it keeps us young

I have been back in the boat shop working on another new 23 myself, I find the work calming , I find my added years good and bad, I am a little bit brighter then in my youth, but it sure gets harder to move now!, I think I would trade movment for brains! ,,enjoy!

I came across this builder in a Florida Sportsman mag the other day. Willis Marine Inc., Stuart Fl. who offers a 20ft. kit boat, cold molded, epoxy, glass. Several options, teak bow trim. Even offers a 10hr. DVD instruction video. www.mysexyboat.com 772.238.7189

Very beautifull boat.

I looked that up and checked prices. You will have a boat that everyone will desire but no one will pay$ that much for?

For those kind of prices, I'd expect them to throw in the bow babe too...
