Question Question about a S/W-Livewell install

I am thinking about installing a salt water / livewell on my boat.
I hate making thru hull holes.
Can I use my maserator discharge and put in a Y fitting so when I want to discharge from the head I open one side of the Y and close the other and than vice cersa for raw water intake?

Sure. That will work. But I think that drilling a small 1" hole above the waterline somewhere with a plastic thru hull would be a better option. A little 5200 and mud it right in there.

I am confused, though thats not hard for me.
If I drill a hole above the water line how will I draw water for the wash down pump?

not a very good idea...
try this...
punch a hole in the bottom, use a 3/4" "high speed style pick up,you're gonna need a shut off valve,as well as a tail piece to fit it...run a piece of certified engine intake hose-DO NOT USE ANYTHING ELSE...run this hose to the pump and use another piece from the pump to the outlet/feed fitting....on the live well outfall side, use an additional thru hull above the water line-i NEVER USE PLASTIC FITTINGS,i use strictly stainless steel fitting for this application,be sure to use certified hose for this application as well and be sure to double clamp all hoses....the bronze thru hull for the pick up needs to be tied into the ship's ground system,to insure proper bonding...use 3m 5200 sealer for all the fittings...DO NOT USE TEFLON TAPE,use avaition form a gasket, coat all the threads with this compound,it will seal the threads...rememeber,the thru hull fittings are straight pipe thread, not tapered pipe thread....use a back up block for the securing nut of the thru hull-i like starboard for this...use the same starboard back up for the above the water line thru hull fitting...

make it look like this....

Sorry. I misread that. I thought you were looking to drain it somehow. Jimmy has the correct method for the intake above.
