    Props

Can someone tell me the difference between a 48 18278 17P prop and a 48 16314 17P prop? Other than the fact that 18278 and 16314 are different of course

Thanks in advance. One was on a 250hp Merc and the other a 200hp Merc. Both 17 pitch and I believe both can be used on the 200 but I was wondering if there would be a difference in performance?

    Thanks again.

I'm working on trying to find the 'perfect' prop for my Parker 2520 MVSC with Yamaha 225 OX66 right now.

    I pulled the Yamaha OEM off of it this winter, a 13 3/4 x 17 black painted SS that I replaced with a 14 1/2 x 17 4-blade AL Solas.

I ran the boat down to my dealer for motor service 2 weeks ago and recorded about the same numbers as the old prop.

A buddy recorded my slip at 30%, so the next test will be with a 14 1/4 x 19 4-blade AL Solas.

Fingers are crossed on the outcome.
I should be going to get the boat from the dealer this weekend, so stand by for the results.

Prop selection is certainly a black art. I'd much rather set up a pro stocker for the drags...

    Prop

Marty, thanks you very much for the information and sorry it's taken me so long to reply.

I know the pitch (17) makes a bit of difference in RPM and MPH, I wonder what difference a half inch diameter (14.5 v 15) will make.

    Thanks again for the information!!!

A pretty good rule of thumb is that a 1 inch change in pitch will change your WOT 150-200 RPM.

As far as changing diameter. A larger diameter prop in one particular pitch will have more blade area and tends to be a better heavy-load prop, but often times suffers on top-end due to the increased drag of the larger blade area.

Smaller diameter props in a given pitch tend to be sllightly faster for the same reason..LESS drag from less blade area. The smaller diameter props are usually better suited to lighter boats.
