    Parts Needed Detroit 8.2's

My parents have a 42' Navigator powered with Detroit 8.2 diesels. My father needs to replace the turbo on one of his engines and he went to Johnson & Towers (very local to us) and they told him that they can't get the turbos anymore since the engines have not been produced since 1996. My dad's were the last model year used in the marine industry.

He has a local mechanic working on it as well and the mechanic has not been able to find the parts either.

Does anyone know or can you recommend a parts supplier or someone looking to part out a 1990-96 8.2?

Do you have a part number? There should be a dataplate on the turbo, either on the compressor housing or the center housing.
IE8 says this may be a phishing site....Well, DUH!!!!!!... Stupid jerks can't even spell fishing right.

    try boatdiesel.com

my detroit engine is a J&T engine but the turbo is a Garrett turbo - you should be able to find one on the boatdiesel board. just be as specific as you can about the type of turbo that it is.

I'll second boatdiesel.com as a great source.....look in the "User Ads" section...

In the mean time you can try these guys which do sell DD 8.2 parts on boatdiesel frequently ...

Milkshake; thanks I sent a PM to taggteam.

Avenger; I asked my Dad, his turbo is Part #: R8923640. J&T said they could rebuild his turbo, but it will take up to 8 weeks. He is trying to leave for FL before then.

JD5652; thanks for the links, my Dad called dieselpartsdirect and they do not have what he is looking for. He has been watching boatdiesel for 2 weeks as well.

Well of course, it's an oddball. The big problem seems to be obtaining exhaust and bearing housings. So the next question is: What exactly is wrong with this turbo?
