Painting the hull & Topsides

Im thinking about painting the boat front to back. Very few people doing this any more. I been looking for a respectable shop but that seems to be a tuff task. I was solicited by the Gel restorers. They claim to be able to wet sand out the entire hull and touch up any blems. The numbers are really low and its tempting for a 3 or 4 year fix. But the inevitable is only postponed. Any thoughts or referrals on shops that may take on paint work for 40' vessels? Any opinions on the wet sanding crew. Im in NJ so help in DE,Pa Md or NJ is my range. Thanks a bunch.

all depends on your boat.

if your boats in good shape, good gel coat you should find some creatures to wet sand and or compond / wax it out. then figure out that rinsing down the boat and shammy'ing her off is great excersise.

I agree with quest, If ur gel coat isnt bad fill& patch, wet sand wth 600 paper finish with 3m imperial fininishing compound and wax. oh yea and use a circ buffer with a 3m superbuff pad then a 3m hookit compounding pad

600 paper is way rough, sanding marks are gonna show...
if the gel isn't bad,you can give it a shot...only problem with wet sanding is,the gel has probably shrunk over time, you run the risk of sanding through the gel...canyon club in cape may does custom paint and glass work-you may wanna get with those guys...

buff pad and finishing compound takes 600 paper outfast and easy if u want to hit with 1000 its your nickel. do a couple of these jobs every season. would only sand patches use wheel and compound on rest butt i havent seen your hull. last boat was 28 albon , hull prep, prime and paint with emeron replace all through hulls[they have to come out to do the job right]---8000.00
