take a big contender and add a 6LY3 480HP with 1.5 reduction gear / Merc Bravo 4 blade 15 1/4" X 32 pitch <~~(May be a little much depending on beer and fishing gear on the trip..) *27 with cup ?? ..
I would figure out at about 2800 rpm it would have around 850 ft pounds of torque and burn about 12.9 gallons per hour at 45 mph ish' and convert over to 3.8 mpg
top her out at maybe 21.7 gallons per hour and run 60 mph and run anywhere in the 730 ft pounds of torque and get 2.8 mpg..ish'
at 2400 rpm you should get around 933 ft pounds of torque and burn 10 gallons per hour and get 3.9 mpg at 36 - 38 mph
you have to deal with a motor box but it doubles as a seat.. you can still get a dive platform also ..
the geared up system actually gives you two drives and runs about $5k and lets you move engine weight forward some.. the 31 to 33 would be a great hull for a try..
crazy plan huh?

Why have the box at all just something else to bark your shins on and or fall over while fighting a fish, here is cauldwells home page, real interesting reading look at the pictures, of the set up on the boat, with outboards and without all that has changed is the transom from a typical 13 degree dead rise to a 45 degree.
Plus they are bringing out a 400hp diesel for next summer
weight wise when I spoke to the UK contact on the phone they are on about 40lb heavier than the 350hp merc outboards, and all that lovely stainless, no more paint blistering http://www.caudwellmarine.com/
I could see a 39 ft Rock Salt cc with twin 400hp Axis drives in my minds eye ooh well dreaming again.

This is the 1st I am seeing it. I will say that its a great concept but you loose a lot of deck space for fish boxes fuel etc. So it would be a complete redesign for a lot of boats.
