Which Outboard?
It's time to repower my lovely old Montauk and I could use some advice. I've had great luck with the 13 year old Merc on her now (so old it has the sightglass on the cowling to check oil).
What 90 hp (or thereabouts) outboard would you buy today for a Montauk? I'm thinking honda, but my dealer (who reps honda and merc) is trying to sell me the new 2 stroke Merc and save me a few bucks. Whadya think? |

A couple of questions will the additional weight of the fourstroke create any problems. If not I like fourstrokes they are quite don't smoke and you don't have to add oil. This is just my preferance the newer etec two strokes close the gap on these issues to a point.Anything you chose will be alright all the new motors are great.

I went Yamaha 90- fourstroke on mine.
I also put a CMC jackplate on the back. Love 'em both. T |

For an Old Montauk a 90 4stroke will be too much weight. If you really want the 4stroke it should be around 60hp.
Finrazr- If thats your Humvee I have seen it around many times. |

I think the perfect power for a Montauk is a 70hp Suzuki 4 stroke.
Visit http://continuouswave.com/cgi-bin/Ul...i?action=intro There are a bunch of folks running that combo. |

I would stick with a 2 stroke the 4 strokes are just to heavy for older boats.

A friend has a 90 hp honda on his montauk (same year as mine) and It looks fine to me.
What's the downside of the heavier engine? Slower to plane? |
