Did you think of a Evinrude ETEC. The 17 whaler will run great with the inline 2 cylinder 60, or the inline 3 cylinder 75 or 90..

ive heard GREAT things about the ETECHs...whats makes them so good?...just the incentives that go along with the purchase?

Don't get the Honda 90. Its like having a car from the 60's when you first start it in the morning. Mine hates the cold weather.

Stick with a MERC , and stick with a 2-stroke.
The extra weight of the 4-stroke will be very noticeable to you.
