Either way, with the teak, your boat will be gorgeous. Congrats. However, I do prefer the look of the Paul Mann that Purple Gold supplied. Much cleaner look.

Here's a shot of the Ocean 58 teak deck without the framed out fish boxes.
Sorry for the large picture, but I guess it helps to get a good shot of the teak deak with no frame.

There is no wrong or right

It's all just so exquisite....

That gaff Ken is just the nuts and the finish and blending of the combing boards and cover for the fish box WOW

I lean to the picture frame but like I said up top there s no right or wrong

I guess if you going no frames then you go with a piano hinge and if you go with them individual hinges to accent...I don't know

I think I have issues...too much eye candy

I have been privaleged to see Mike's rig and it is massive and the qulaity of the wood work is beyond belief

Hope I can still comment on a beautiful boat after all that IPS talk. Picture frame around the outside border only ,and the rest straight through so the lids etc..are hidden

Wow!!..FO thanks for giving us the honor of some input...you know how I feel about your baby.

I love the look of the frames....Also, stay away from the piano hinges..yikes...that looks cheap and they are not too nice on the bare feet when stumbling around the docks. The picture you origonally posted with the frames has hinges inlaid into the deck...that's the way to go.

Since its your $$$....how about a nice inlay of a marlin on that fishbox lid... just a thought.

Keep the pics coming.

honestly, i wouldn't do anything else, the way the fish boxes are framed out i think is beautiful, i wouldn't take away from that, the eyes automatically go there now. IMO

Vin,
We are all looking at the teak decks and you notice the gaff handle.
That's funny, but your right it is a pretty sick looking gaff.
I'm not sure who made it for Ocean, I'll have to find out next time out.

Picture frame by far looks better. Especially after a year or two when the matching boards are slightly warped or nicked up on the edges. With picture frame they are already different so the imperfections will show a lot less later later.

when i see pic-framed hatches i automatically think of a fancy cruiser. not a fishing deck. my less than .02 is for straight.

I dont think either would be a mistake though.
