Opinions on Sea Fox and Sea Quest Boats
I am buying a bigger boat this summer. I recently got into Shark Fishing and its time to trade in my 19' bayliner which is not really an offshore style boat. i ahd it out up to about 20 miles off shore but it is a bit light and not a deep enough V to handle the chop. Plus no livewells or anything.
I am getting a 23' and have been considering the new Sea Fox and Sea quest boats. Wondered if anyone had any thoughts on them. Price was the driving factor and I prefer new because I want to spend my limited weekends on the water and not doing repairs. Would Consider other boats or used boats but oh have to add the wifey said a cabin is a must if i want her on it and since i am in Iraq and willl be finishing a 15 month tour i kind of miss her, and would prefer her fishing with me. Of course her not being there wont stop me haha I also started a new site at www.sharkfighter.com |

Welcome aboard and I am sure you are looking forward to coming home
I do not have any experience with SeaQuest at all 1st time that I am hearing of them. Seafox we were a dealer for 2 years and my dealer level experience was horrible and they had thier issues. I am sure that they have got thier act together since then its been a few. Boating and fishing is there as a luxury and are meant to be enjoyed especially with you and your time that you have been away or will be away. If you PM me your budget or what you are looking to spend. I would be more than happy to help steer you in a affordable way and no it doesn't have to be a Contender but you do have other choices and I wouldn't be scared of certain brand used boats eitherThanks for everything that you have done for us being over there!! |

I wouldn't own a seafox, a very good friend has just gone thru nothing short of a night mare. The stringers and cap were seperating on a 1 year old boat.He sent it back 3 months later got it back(electronics not reinstalled yadayada). On the second trip out everything seperated again.Back to the factory well he just got it back a month ago and went rock fishing once so we'll see.In a moderate chop the thing will beat the fillings out of your teeth and make your great grandkids pee blood.I believe you would be far better suite hooking up with Mary or one of the other dealers on here and get a good used boat(new boats have plenty of problems see above). If you are set on new I would look at seahunts as far as entry level boats go they are about the best I've seen and should be priced similar to seafox.

Man I hate to hear that a manufacturer released a turd to the new owner. It happens across the line ...some where with them all. I hope your buddy can enjoy 2008 fishing.
SharkFighter welcome to the site. Keep on the low and come home soon man. There are quite a list of used and new boats in your flavor. Please give the vendors here first shot if possible. All are very respectable and knowledgeable with in their specified products. I have never heard of seaquest boats. Seafox I have heard of. Never fished one but know of the model boats. If you are looking for a mono or cat type hull, you will find it here. I hope this is the your last tour over there and you can fish regularly again |

Best friend had a 23' seafox. First, it is really a 21' boat-- we measured. He put less than 100 hours on before he decided to sell it. I rode on it several times and it would absolutely beat you to death. overboard drain tubes kept breaking (new boat???) allowing water to come back into bilge. took him 1 1/2 years to sell.
The seaquest i saw at a local boat show last year was a joke. It had the fuel filter mounted on the back of the eurotransom. worst boat i have ever seen quality wise. Buy a quality used boat |

you asked for it...
one word fits both of these boats....JUNK !!! these, are among some of the worst built, worst performing boats ever to be floated....there's no such thing as "quality" when it comes to a sea fox,or a sea quest...
do yourself a favor, stay away from these cheap off brand boats...there's a reason they cost much less,it's called quality...i promise you, junk, even at a super low price,is still junk... these boats,anglers,polars,maxum...junk,slapped together and blown out the door... do yourself a favor, take a look at an older boat, look for someting with a good name,hydrasport-vector series, mako, sea craft, albermarle, shamrock, all these are good quality, excellent running boats that will do you fine...it's a buyer's market right now, take your time and look around....

Wow thanks for the advice its why I asked
Thanks for the advice! I am thinking I will steer clear of them. I want to send my time on the water not in the driveway working on it. When i am home I fish just about EVERY weekend all year long and I hate when I can't get out because of mechanical problems. being in a place like this really makes you appreciate just being out on the water tht much more.
Thanks all Rob www.sharkfighter.com |

From what I have seen down here, I too would advise you to be careful about Sea Fox. There seems to have been some basic design flaws in the past. Maybe the new ones are better.....but be careful.
Find one with twins, for example, and put four people in the stern. Note the waterline.

Boat Buying
Greetings
I am a CPT doing a MiTT gig just North of you. I would definitely talk to MRS Ingram. My advice to you regarding boats would be to go with a used one and as far as which brand is concerned, look at the age and resale values of some of the different brand names out there--it's a good indicator of what people think of some one's product. Another good thing about used boats is that you may not need to go out and buy alot of the necessary extras. There are many people out there that buy a boat, run it for a while, trade it in and then move up. This is somthing you may want to consider if you find a brand you like with a good resale value. Remember boats and offshore fishing are hungry money pits with no bottom and even a new boat is going to require alot of TLC $. Money well spent if you ask me. Good Luck JasonB |
