    Open array antenna question....

I may have to remove the radar antenna if it measures too high for the road if i have the boat pulled rather than run the boat to the yard. My question is if anyone has had experience with this, is this something easily handled, or best left to a professional? Thanks for any help!!

I have helped some one do this but it was on a mounting bracket that made it a little easier and cleaner. It was a Raymarine unit. I could see where it could be a bit of a pain especially re attaching it.

    For what its worth.

Brian- I'm not sure about how hard it is to remove, I still haven't bought mine yet, But I had the same concerns while trailering and am going to purchase the hinged mount so that it can be tilted forward and out of the way while trailering.

    Something like this:http://store.wmjmarine.com/c17024.html

Hey Barry, that hing bracket looks like it would work nice, i'm thinking if there is enough cable i may be able to lower the antenna assy below roof level, i just have to figure out a way to secure it

Finesse, i don't know exactly but i think the assy (base & antenna) is about 22 to 24 inches total. And yes this is the high point.

    Fender,
Actually you are in better shape than the guys with a closed radome because you can place your array horizontal. I have seen several setups, most make or buy a bracket and hingle the unit from the front of the hard top. Fold down to trailer and fold in place when raising anteneas. most any kind of clip/latch can be fabrecated to hold it in place. Of course be carefull that the cable doesn't pinch (either up or down). If memory serve me the minimum highway clearace is 13.5'. My high point on the rig on trailer is 13' 1" and haven't ripped the top off yet.
