I just bought a 1974 Reinell 19' with an OMC 165 outdrive (Model #980063) and have been having trouble with the tilt operation. When I activate the switch, either UP or DOWN all I get is a click at the solenoids. I replaced the tilt motor and one of the solenoids with brand new units but with the same results. I'm at a total loss at where to go from here (I've only owned outboards in the past). Any help solving this would be greatly appreciated.
I can probably get you the schematic for the outdrive trim unit. But a couple questions. Does the motor even come on? By-pass the soleniods and wire the motor directly from a battery. Reverse the leads from poss to neg and that will raise and lower the outdrive. That will be a good starting point. It will insure that the hydrualic ram is not stuck and that fluid is flowing properly, and the motor is operational. Start there and let us know.

Problem solved. I traced the power supply to the solenoids through a module near the starter. I found 12V going in but less than 4V coming out. Replaced the module and now I've got a working tilt again. Thanks for all the looks at my post and especially the only one to reply. I guess I'll keep my posts to a less technical nature in the future.
