Just like to know your thoughts about the new hull design from Dave Martin on the Ocean Yachts models. I'm interested in buying a 42' or 46'. Someone had experience with these boats? what are their strong points and their defects?
Thanks so much

Not nearly as efficient as the 43. there have 15 degree dead rise in the back, I believe they also have more horsepower and more speed in than the 43. They burn more too
We've sold a bunch of 46's. Great running hull and very impressive performance. Not as experienced with the 42 but will say that they pack a lot of features into a 42 foot boat.
Look at layouts, hull design, get down in the engine rooms and get in there and look at every bolt, nut, belt, motor mount, wire and system you can get to without contorting your body or going to the hostpital. look at where fuel tanks are located and basically pass your hand over the entire boat. Look at availiable storage where a/c's are mounted, etc.... look at more boats also to compare things ... look at a Paul Mann, Spencer, ... <~~ carolina type boat... a Hatter..ass ... a 45 viking / Cabo .. look at the way things are laid out for ride weight and engines... (if it's not a Cat it's a Dog.. kinda thing..) ... figure what it takes to run or keep up the boats. Oceans are all over down here and they are pretty ... somewhat fast.. *but most boats are now in that range... Just my .02 cents but I would look hard at what you could have in a used custom or even new custom rig .. my buddy runs a 72' merritt .."I call it a Pompano Pounder"... just as a joke ... Roy and Al would smile the boats like sex on the water though! Look hard before ya spend $ on how the design looks on the inside and your mechanic cannot get to the motors without tearing out the salon.
Hi Questsportfishing, I've been at past Genoa BoatShow, and I visited Cabo 40 Fly, Viking 45 open, Ocean 46 SS, Tiara 3900 Conv. These were my impressions at time:
CABO: beautiful engine room, roomy and exceptionally clean, excessively auster interiors, and very noisy at idle (couldn't test the boats during the boat show), great electrical systems and panel. price as configured us$ 1.150.000
VIKING: wide, wide beam, great cockpit for fishing, it was an express so the underdeck space was not so illuminated, that boat did not have the fit & finish I expected from Viking (approximative connections between ceilings and wooden edges, and something else.. not so scandalous things, however..), great perceived quality by touching the fiberglass: heavy boat.
TIARA: well layed down interiors on a 39' boat, and very good fit & finish, great access to flybridge due to the cruising style ladder with large steps; very finished, but very tight engine room, can't imagine how difficulty can be to make any major repairs onto it
OCEAN: exterior: very solid construction, great impression for the gelcoat and very regular hull surfaces without imperfections, no rattle or squeak when stepping on the storage portholes, very wide gangways with efficient non-skid, great interior layouts with the best space utilization I've ever seen on a 46' boat. Well finished engine room, enough space to go around the big MTU 60-series powerplants, Awlgrip everywhere. The downs are some minor poor solutions on, for example, latches, locking systems for fold down storages on the command bridges. But Ocean uses, just like the top.tier brands, double clamped thru-hull fittings, safety bilge valves, fire system for e.r., etc... The impression I had by staying at the dock on the boat, was of a tendency to roll with quartering and crooss sea. Underwater exhaust system
Definitely, my use for the boat is 75% for fishing and 25% for cruise with family. We need for a 3 cabins boat and 2 heads, and the only 46' boat that offers what above, I think is the Ocean (?) Also, I've heard some bad things about the new Brunswick Cabos, and I won't spend 1.200.000$ for a 40 footer. The boat has high sound levels at cruise speed and it can be determinant when doing a 150nm crossing. For who fish it couldn't be a great problem, but for family it certainly is.
If You have further suggestions or what to look at particularly on the Ocean, please let me know. For example, on the new Ocean boats, how is the electrical panel?
Thanks again,
ben
most all the Oceans have a schematic of thier electric system (some boats do not and that sucks!) Gold star to ya also for passing your hand over the boats...! most have no idea what lives up under the deck... the simpler the better. the ocean is a fast hull alot like the fexas design. the underwater exhaust is a big plus on getting the water off the hull most people have no clue how much speed ya scrub off with the butt end of the deal. when ya get her head south to the exumas and back up the outside of eluthra (harbour island) it is supposed to be good for both the soul of your boat and you.
Sorry for misunderstanding but I'm italian so some english phrases maybe a problem for me.... So do you think that the underwater exhaust reduces speed on a hull?
What do you mean when saying "when ya get her head south to the exumas and back up the outside of eluthra (harbour island) it is supposed to be good for both the soul of your boat and you"
Sorry again, and thank you
