    Observation Station for a CC

I have a 29' Regulator and want to get a observation station on the t-top. I would like to compare pricing for one with controls and one without. I got a price from carolina custom towers in MHC and it was around 14K! I sure hope someone can do it for cheaper than that. Are there any members who have put a upper station and can give me some insight about good shops in North Carolina, pricing, and information about reinforcement, etc? Thanks..

    Micheal,
I am doing something a little different this winter for my CC. I and going to put a zipout above the leaning post with a narrow wrap around bolster. That way I can get down in a hurry . I have a AP 24 and just installed the WR20 remote for it. It has real time steering and works great so second station steering is not needed. If we hook up I will just get down off the leaning post. For trolling the remote will be fine. I will show you the next time I see you at BroadCreek or PC.Amazing what you can see just 4-6 feet off the deck!!

Talk to wayne at harbor welding in wanchese. you should be able to get a tower with controls for 5-6 k.

I could see 14k after full electronics and new riggers and a buggy top.

I have a very nice cobia hoop made by sherman rigging out of miami, I would be willing to part with....

I talked to Wayne and he could do the station, ladder, rod holders, cushion for like $2800.00. But he reffered me to Joes to do the controls and he said minimum 10K for just controls! I hate that I can't seem to find someone to do it cheaper.

    Thats crazy, 10k? for controls?

Call Mike at Whalens marine in Va beach I know he can do the controls for better than that.

Do you have some special electronic controls?

I have a single diesel and its less than 2500 for the rigging and controls.

    something just doesnt sound right

those prices seem about what i got quoted when i wanted to get one on my previous boat. it was over 10k for upper station with controls, i wanted mine to fold down but that price was with no electronics or riggers. thats why the next boat i had i bought on ewith the upper station already included because they were so expensive to get done. i called all the places you are calling.

I was quoted $14k to add a second station with controls, electronics, etc to my 32' Sea Vee. It was going to be designed basically the same as the one on the Spanish Fly.

This a clip from the other thread:

"Got mine done for less than $3000. I cannot tell any difference in how the boat runs. It is a 28' boat so maybe that is the reason. Maybe it would effect a 21' more. I have not put mine on a trailer yet but I know it is right at 14'. I have seen boats being towed down to Hatteras without folding theirs down. I guess you just have to be careful. I will say it makes a huge difference when site casting. Well worth the money spent.

Ben Dishman of Dishman Fabrication in Hampton may be able to build your tower for you. He is generally very busy so you may be waiting a while. His number is 757-478-5070. Before he builds the tower you will need the control box. I would recommend Actionweld.com out of FL. I got mine there after researching the best prices online. Depending on the type of steering and motor you have I would recommend calling teleflex and have those guys put a parts list together for you. There will be one list for steering and one list for the controls. They are very nice guys and will help out as much as possible. Then I would recommend calling Mobile Marine (Tho Hoang who is on this site) to do the installation 757-270-6882. He can also look over the parts list before you order anything to make sure it all matches up.

Hope this helps."(quote from another forum)

That posted I would stick with wayne at harbor welding for the fab side and either contact this gentleman above or Mike (swancaller) at Whalens marine. unless you have digital throttle controls you can purchase a standard morse shifter/throttle lever set up, you will have to change the lower throttles also, but that is better than paying top dollar for a factory set.
Its really simple stuff, its just about having someone that can make the cables. any hyd. shop (tipco products) can make up the hoses.

32 seavee- good to see another sw va boy. I'm a Roanoke native. Got me a 29 seavee...hehe
