    NYC Boat Show

We hit the NYC show on the last day, and all the vendors said it was really slow. They chose to do the show before Christmas this year to make life easier on the vendors. Publicly they stated it was to catch the holiday shopping crowds, but I can't picture people coming out of Macy's with five shopping bags saying "Let's go look at some boats!" The good news is that there were some real bargains to be had from desperate vendors.

There were still things to see, I grabbed a few pics where I could. It usually wasn't hard to get an open shot because attendance was so light. Sorry about the pics being dark. I didn't bring a great camera.

    Some more pics:

Sixth is the Canyon Runner guys. I'd have gotten a better pic of their display, but they were already packing up at 4:00. Things must've been slow. Sorry guys.

    NYC Boat Show Pt III

    A few more:

First pic is Rich Johnson, host of "The Fishing Line" a NY/NJ cable TV and radio show. He did some informative seminars at the show.

2nd: I wouldn't buy a canoe, but the woodwork on this one was nice.

Then there's the pics of things that make you go WTF? People will try to sell anything at this show. My guess is that the organizers needed to fill floor space.

And I told my friends if I'm ever shopping for a pontoon boat, put a bullet in me, I'm done. I wonder if they sold any.

Also, apologies to any Carver owners I offend, but phew!

So that's it. The good, the bad and the ugly. My feeling is that if they keep the show in this time slot it doesn't have long to live. Most of the vendors felt it was the bad economy that kept people away in droves. I guess we'll find out next at year's show. If there is one.

I didn't go this year due to a couple reasons...

    (1) The dates were not very good....
    (2) The last couple of shows have really sucked for the sportfishing community. The jerky and kitchen pan guys were there the last two years as well along with the tool guys and other odd ball vendors.

I agree. I am much more a fan of the AC show. A lot more sportfishing vendors and better boats.

I know the kitchenware guys are there every year, some of the others are too, but they seemed really out of place. Especially this year.

I talked to a couple of factory reps who travel to all the shows and they agreed that A.C. is a much better show. My problem with A.C. is that it becomes an overnighter, whereas NYC is a train ride and short walk.

They didn't do a very good job advertising the date change. I missed the show and was in manhattan 2 days last week

I hear there will be no big boats at AC, due to lift issues. Can anybody confirm?
