New company offers piracy protection for megayachts

A new company, Maritime Bodyguards Miami, recently formed in response to the resurgence in international piracy.

MBM is a group of ex-Special Forces officers and maritime professionals who provide protection specifically for the private megayacht sector.

There are three schools of thought when it comes to reacting to an attempted hijacking or boarding, MBM says: offer no resistance, train crewmembers to use firearms or employ specially trained security teams.

"This [last] option is unquestionably the safest and most reliable, assuming certain caveats," MBM said in a release. "The truth is that a professional maritime security team can protect you best, not by winning a firefight ... but rather by using advanced intelligence and planning to avoid that situation at all costs."
